Flash Masters is a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive community, working together to educate, inspire, and celebrate the best flash photography in the world through tutorials, classes, live streams, awards, and community events. Flashmasters approached us after a recent website transition which didn't perform well or confidently position them as the leaders in the flash photography community.
Flashmasters was originally solely an awards platform for flash photography, which previously relied on a WordPress website with a cumbersome 20+ step process for judges to sort, group, resize, and watermark photos. We streamlined this by developing a dedicated Awards module in Craft CMS, enabling judges to vote directly within the platform while automating sorting, resizing, and watermarking.
The key shift for Flashmasters was transitioning from being solely an awards platform to a community and education hub. To support this, we developed a custom video player for subscribers, enabling seamless course progression, video skipping, and automatic transitions. Logged-out users could access free content but were prompted to subscribe when encountering paid videos. This new approach led to a nearly threefold increase in sign-ups within the first three months after launch.
We also built a custom subscription setup, integrated with Stripe. Subscriptions grant users access to exclusive content, including tutorials, downloads, and documents. Subscribers can easily upgrade, downgrade, or cancel their subscriptions directly on the site, eliminating the need to contact Flashmasters for account changes.
