My favourite projects of 2019

My favourite projects of 2019 Header
Caution! This article is 6 years old, and our opinions may have changed.

2019 is sailing by, I honestly can’t believe we are half way though the year already… here are some of my favourite projects from the year so far.

Run For The World - Virtual Running Website

Need motivation to get out and get fit? Virtual races seem to be the in thing in 2019 with the influx of plenty of like-minded websites similar to Zwift and Strava who are the market leaders… Run For the World allows users to join their favourite events, and challenge people from all over the world to partake in virtual running events, be it a single event… let’s say a 10km fun run, or a cumulative monthly total.. RFTW helps users bring out their friendly competitive side and even get a medal at the end of it, what’s not to love?!

JMW - Floor Screeding Specialists

We were tasked to produce a website which showcased this clients Experience, Reliable & Quality Floor Screeding services.

We decided to take an image heavy approach which would visually attract the user to their services.. with 25 years of experience this client has a wealth of knowledge in their respective field of expertise.

I quite like the no nonsense, straight up results we achieved for this client, which the client agreed to sending this one straight to build with not changes, result! 👌

IASDR - Design Conference

Based in Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester School of Art was established in 1838 and is the second oldest Art Schools in the UK. As the one of the largest providers of art and design it encompasses depart of Architecture, Art, Design and Media.
The design needed to be informative, minimal yet pleasing to the eye... We thought it was important to have a count down to the event and a quick intro along with date, and location above the fold.. coupled with a clear call to action to help users engage immediately.

Funeral Directors

With a large variety of services, this one required an in depth website overhaul, both in terms of sitemap and structure.

We created wireframes, brand guidelines and carried out extensive user testing on their current website to gauge where the users tend to go.

This allowed us to come up with a minimal, yet informative website which serves as a great avenue for the user to get to the outcome they require.

The main aim of the website is to get the user to engage with the client, for them to get in touch and enquire about their tailored services which is unrivalled by any of their local competitors.

Luxury hotel based in Alderney

Still in it's early build phase, this luxury hotel based in Alderney required for an out-of-the-box approach to their website, they sent through a few of their competitors websites which if I'm honest... were quite underwhelming. They didn't convey what they were trying to showcase, this project was a really enjoyable one because the client was opened to any ideas we wanted to pitch.

We decided to have a image heavy layout, with parallax imagery, a loose grid and plenty of animations upon scroll.. we decided to use their green branding as a base for their website, which shines through really well throughout.. use of their brand assets like the hedgehog icon further cements their branding on the design.

River & Canal Tours website

Experience some of Manchester’s leading River & Canal Tours with a fully responsive website with the functionality to book tickets online, gather key information about upcoming tours and contact them directly.

This is sort of an AirBnb on water kind of business, with a whole host of events, experiences and tours, the user is truly spoiled for choice when landing on this website.

Online Mentoring Finder

Connecting Mentors & Mentees worldwide. This website allows mentors to join, and offer their services to Mentees and visa-versa. With just a few simple searches, a user can find a Mentor that truly suits their needs. They can log in, and once they book time with their respective Mentor, they can communicate with each other via the build in messaging system on the website. All completely bespoke to this client, we look to build a user dashboard and messaging system to make the whole process of seeking mentor advice seamless and effortless. ✅

Those are just a few of the many great websites I've been lucky enough to thrown my skills at this year so far.. 2019 is looking to be a great year, and I'm enjoying the process of building my skillsets and expertise as a digital designer on a daily basis. Almost every project requires me to grow as a designer, and step out of my comfort zones to find the best solution for each and every client thus keeping with the high standard we have set the bar here at Shape. 🎉

Hiya, I'm Mike - Web designer at Shape. My articles usually consist of design related stuff.
