Yes that's right, we are giving the entire company the day off after England's win in the World Cup Round of 16 clash against DR Congo.

The next match is against Mexico, at 1am on Monday 6th July 2026.... which means some staff will be hungover, or just tired from staying up and watching the game.

Back in 2024, we gave all staff the day off for the England final and it worked absolutely fine from a business point of view.

There are some stipulations.... as long as the staff have all their work done, if any client meetings are in the diary they need to be rearranged, this shouldn't effect work. It's not like it's every day, the world cup is every 4 years and there's only a few England games left if they progress to the final.

Who are we? MadeByShape, is a web design and branding agency based in Manchester, and we've worked with personal brands across a variety of industries, from household names like Gary Neville and Sacha Lord to founders looking to establish themselves within their sector. We work with clients all over the world, and the majority of client interaction is online - so face to face meetings are limited in this day and age. Everything is tracked on a project management tool called Monday.com, so our clients can be notified of these days that staff won't be available.

So what are the benefits?

Team morale is the main thing. If your staff appreciate the little gestures, they appreciate you as a boss - and ultimately they work harder.

Also, let's be honest - who can actually work productively when they're hungover or exhausted?

So it makes sense to us from a productivity point of view.
