Why I joined Shape: Jane Bartos

Hi! I'm Jane, a Web & Brand Designer and the shiny new thing here at Shape. Read on if you want to find out why I chose Shape and how my first day was. 

If you don't ask, you don't get

I first heard about Shape back at my previous workplace, one of my colleagues (who's also my bf but we won't get into that) worked with Andy and Tom on a Shopify project for one of their clients. That's when Shape came into my radar; I checked out their work which was spot on, so when the time came for me to change agencies, Shape was at the top of my list. It was around the same time as Andy started popping up on my LinkedIn, and I really liked everything he was saying, so even though there was no 'official' job opening for a designer, I decided to reach out to him anyway to express my enthusiasm for the agency. We met for an informal chat, felt like we clicked, and the rest is history. Personality and vibe of a workplace are huge for me; no matter how good the standard of work is, I would never work for or with huge egos or rude people, so Shape ticked both of those boxes for me and turned out to be everything I've been looking for, and more.

I've always done various design bits during the course of my career, but over the past year, I started gravitating more and more towards web design. I'm not going to bore you with how I used to build my own Tumblr themes when I was 16, but I've always had an appreciation for code, the web, and the digital side of things, so I guess it's not that surprising.

I was really keen to improve my web design skills, learn more about user experience and just do more of what I enjoy, and Shape is the OG within this space. In order to be the best, you have to learn from the best, and digging through Shape's portfolio made me even more determined to join the team and work on some beautiful and cool sites, as well as brands.

My first day

They say time flies when you're having fun, and it couldn't be any more true about my first day. Huge thanks to Andy, Jason, and the rest of the team for welcoming me into the team, and Ella for walking me through everything so well. It makes a big, big difference, knowing there are people around you who genuinely want you to do well, and I can't wait to see where my Shape journey takes me. I'm so ready for this new challenge, to learn, grow and develop further and bring my genuine excitement, passion, and fresh ideas to the table.
