Over the last week social media has been buzzing over Formula 1. With the 2017 season coming up, all the teams have been revealing their new cars and this has had me and Jason a tad excited. With new cars comes new designs and new livery and being handy at design, this is pretty important to me! As the week has gone on, each day a number of teams have had scheduled release dates to ensure they all get a bit of time in the spotlight. So let’s start at day 1.

Starting off the week is Renault. After only returning to F1 two years ago, they are still trying to develop themselves as a team and are slowly making their way back up the rankings. Along with this years car reveal, they have announced they are targeting 5th place AKA best of the rest. Now then, the car. First impression. What a beaut. An utter stealth bomb. The matt black and yellow colour way has been tinkered with slightly since last year and it is spot on. Across the car is minimal sponsor branding, keeping the whole design clean and minimal, just what we like! This one is already a personal favourite of mine and I haven’t even seen the others yet!

The next notable reveal of the week is probably the most anticipated of the week - Mercedes. Their approach to revealing the car was pretty low key, with shots of it in action at Silverstone on a test drive as opposed to the usual social media hype and indoor event reveal. I think this was quite a nice touch. No nonsense. First impressions, not much has changed, since last year. Which isn’t a bad thing! It does allow you to notice the changes to the chassis though, in order to comply with the 2017 regulation changes. One of the most noticeable changes being the side ‘floor boards’. From an aerial shot this does look a bit odd, but I’m sure it’s there for a reason…I just don’t know the reason! The rear wing is also considerably lower, and this looks super sweet. Nice!

Day 3 brings us the brand new Ferrari. I’m quite happy to keep this one short and sweet. It’s still Red. That’s pretty much all you need to know! You can see another regulation change on this one, and it’s a bit of a strange one. They seem have added a bloody big fin. This is on some of the other cars also, but not everyone has taken this option. Personally, I don’t like this feature. It looks like the back of a 737 Airbus! Not for me…

This was the one I was most looking forward to. After their merge with Honda last year, McLaren didn’t exactly do too well. But my god did they have a fine looking motor! They have kept everything very hush hush up until now and it has had the other teams pretty worried. Perhaps they have found the form that has eluded them for some years now. But as for the new design, oh gosh. They seem to have taken their colour scheme from last year, and thought ‘how can we change this to make it look absolutely atrocious?’. What have you guys done?! Introducing the Orange livery has been said to reference the teams original livery and a hint back to their successful heritage. But seriously, that orange!

Red Bull

The final team worth mentioning is undoubtably the team most likely to steal the top spot from Mercedes this year. Red Bull are sure to advantage of all the new regulation changes with mad professor Adrian Newey at the helm. And their new car looks like a motor worthy of living up to these statements. The rich, deep, ultra matt design is on fire. As with their car last year, I don’t understand how they make the livery so ‘matt’! It looks amazing, so flat, not a single reflection bouncing off. It just absorbs light that the demonic looking thing that it is! The main reveal came via the video which can be seen here, give it a watch and get a tissue as you’re sure to start drooling.

This is just a look at the main competitors - as these guys are what make the sport what it is. To view the rest of the teams and their new motors, take a look here. If you want to really nerd out, check out all the details of the regulation changes.

Now lets get this season underway!
